The fate of Delta Babes has been sealed and it has been done in a cruel way as the team went down 1-3 to Sunshine Queens on the final day of the Women’s Championship playoff in Ikenne.

Needing a victory against the Akure outfit, the Delta ladies went all out, giving as much as they were receiving but they could do nothing to stop the first goal of the match by Moyinoluwa Owolabi who was on hand to drive home a rebound from Divine Onwuchekwa’s strike in the 33rd minute.
It soon became 2-0 on the dot of 45 minutes as experienced striker, Precious Edewor poked home from close range punishing Delta Babes for their loss of concentration.
Delta Babes fought back gamely on resumption of the 2nd half and fired home early on in the 51st minute to set the tone for a frenetic finish to the 2nd half.
The Asaba girls huffed and puffed but their finishing was a problem until Sunshine Queens came up with the final nail in the coffin in the 82nd minute through Shola Oduwale’s deflected header.
It’s goodbye to the Championship for Delta Babes but for Sunshine Queens, the anxious wait continues as the result of the game between Lakeside Queens and Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens will determine the eventual winner of Group B and the one to promote to Premier League from the group.
