Rivers United’s interim coach, Ndubuisi Nduka, expressed his appreciation for the organizers of the Naija Super 8 competition during a post-match conference following their game against Yobe Stars.
Despite both teams being eliminated from the competition prior to the match, Rivers United emerged victorious with a 1-0 win at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Port Harcourt.
The decisive goal came in the 25th minute when Kazie Eyinnaya capitalized on a corner kick from Emmanuel Ampiah.
While Akwa United and Lobi Stars had already secured their spots in the semifinals, this victory allowed Rivers United to end their campaign on a positive note.
In a video posted on Rivers United’s Twitter handle, Coach Nduka commended the organizers and sponsors of the eight-team competition, highlighting the positive aspects that emerged from the tournament.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) in their quest to regulate and improve the state of Nigerian football.
During the regular season, Rivers United topped NPL Group B with an impressive tally of 34 points from 18 matches.
However, their performance in the Super 6 play-offs saw them finish third, accumulating a total of nine points from five games.
The Naija Super 8 competition provided an opportunity for teams to compete and showcase their skills. Despite being eliminated, Rivers United’s victory against Yobe Stars served as a testament to their determination and ability.
