Haruna Quadri, the first African table tennis player to be ranked top 10 in the world will be leading the selection for entry into WTT Contender Lima 2023 following the release of the wildcards for the event today.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games – men’s singles champion is accompanied by the selected trio of Miu Hirano, Miwa Harimoto, and Dang Qui for the upcoming singles main draw as they join the fray for the WTT Contender.
Peru provided Qiu with his second-ever international singles title and first in the WTT Series as the pengrip player closed out the win in a thrilling final against Dimitrij Ovtcharov in 2022.
With a wildcard headed his way for 2023, the World No.14 will get the chance to raise the trophy once again in Lima when the event gets underway.
Qiu’s best performances this year in the WTT Series have been quarterfinal placings at both Singapore Smash and WTT Contender Durban. Returning to Lima should be the spark that re-ignites the German back to title-winning form.
As revealed, the WTT Contender in Lima will begin on 31st July to 6th August as Haruna will be hoping to have a good outing in his first appearance at the event.
Aruna takes the second wildcard entry in the Men’s Singles as the World No.18 will land in Lima in search of his first WTT Series win.
No stranger to deep runs, the King of Africa is yet to move beyond the quarterfinals this year so will hope to cash in on the wildcard opportunity and score a series-best performance.
Meanwhile, World Table Tennis has released its latest ranking for July, and Nigeria legend who is bearing the flag of the African continent high, Aruna Quadri was unmoved from his former position in the ranking despite missing the Lagos WTT series due to injury.
Shaking off the injury, Aruna was able to participate in Ljubljana in Slovenia.
According to the ranking released, the Nigerian Olympian was ranked 18th in the World and still maintained his top spot as an African number one with a total of 1240 points.
