Over 300 boys and girls had the opportunity to participate in this grassroots development program, following the success of similar camps in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire; Accra, Ghana; and Onitsha, Anambra State.

The event kicked off with a courtesy visit to the U.S. Embassy, followed by player screenings that attracted an impressive turnout of more than 300 boys and girls.

In a heartwarming gesture, the camp also provided an opportunity for wheelchair basketballers to showcase their skills, with twenty players even being selected for an upcoming international engagement.

Anthony Nwora, the president of the Jordan Nwora Foundation, expressed his satisfaction with the camp’s progress, highlighting the children’s development and their eagerness to learn.

He emphasized the foundation’s commitment to positively impacting the lives of these youngsters through basketball. The joy and excitement displayed by the kids were described as priceless.

The camp featured a talented coaching staff, including Alex Nwora, Spencer Gervase, and Anne O’Neil from the United States, as well as Chris Nomigo, Synesius Boniface, Dele Simon Awonuga, Simon Evbuomwan, Temi Onyeke, Mary Zidah, Tokunbo Olaosebikan, Gloria Umeh, and Titi Adekoya.

Participants at the camp received instruction in various aspects of the game, such as life skills, basketball fundamentals, the evolution of basketball globally and in Africa, as well as coaching clinics. The camp was organized in collaboration with FIBA Africa Zone Three, with Col. Sam Ahmedu (Rtd.) serving as its president.

Jordan Nwora, a prominent member of Nigeria’s national basketball team, D’Tigers, gained international recognition for his performances at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2019 and the 2020 Olympic Games. Before the Olympics, he played a pivotal role in helping the Milwaukee Bucks secure the 2021 NBA title, becoming the first former Louisville men’s basketball player to win an NBA championship since 2002.

Nwora’s remarkable achievements extend to the Nigerian national team, where he holds the record for the highest individual scoring performance in a single game, surpassing Ike Diogu’s previous record of 31 points by scoring an impressive 36 points against Mali in 2018.

During the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, he led Nigeria in scoring, averaging 21 points per game and registering a game-high 33 points against Germany, despite Nigeria’s loss in the preliminary round.

As the 2023 Jordan Nwora Foundation Elite Basketball Camp concludes, the foundation looks forward to evaluating its progress and seeking opportunities to improve and continue making a positive impact through basketball.
