Permanent Secretary, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, on Friday, met with coaches of different Sports Associations of the Ministry to unlock ways of winning medals in subsequent sport meets.
Unhappy with recent performance of the State’s athletes at competitions and championships, the Permanent Secretary disclosed that the emergency meeting was imperative to set the record straight and carve a niche for the State in the sports world.
He noted that the era of attending events just for the sake of participation is over, and that henceforth, any Sport Association that fails to meet up with the minimum requirements of medal hall at competitions or championships would be sidelined from the Government’s itineraries.
Danladi emphasized that there would be improved reward packages for athletes and coaches who distinguish themselves at sporting events as morale boosting incentives and to serve as a wake-up call to all those whose athletes and sports are not measuring up with the mandate.
The Permanent Secretary reiterated Government’s continuous support to sports and critical stakeholders to actualize the goal of making Nasarawa State the home sports in Nigeria.
He appealed to the Coaches to accord him and Government necessary support by giving their best for the sake of the State and nation in general.
