Nigeria Amputee Football Team, Nine Other Nations Clear For Accra 2023 Para Games

In the latest development regarding the upcoming African Paralympic Football Tournament, the Confederation of African Amputee Football Federation (CAAF) inspection team has given the green light to Nigeria and nine other nations to participate in the competition.

Led by notable figures such as Madam Celeste Maria Do Rosario, Vice President of the World Amputee Football Federation, Mr. Usman Mustafa Shalanyuy, Vice President of CAAF, and Mr. Bizimana Dominique, the Technical Director, the team conducted a final assessment of the facilities designated for the Accra 2023 Para Games.

During their three-day visit, the inspection team meticulously evaluated the venues chosen to host the first-ever Africa Paralympics Nations Tournament. The Accra Sports Stadium, Wembley Park, Adjiringano Astro Turf, and Legon Stadium were carefully scrutinized by the team. These venues will welcome teams from Angola, Tanzania, Morocco, Kenya, Cameroon, Gambia, Nigeria, Egypt, Rwanda, and the host nation, Ghana.

These ten nations have demonstrated their prowess in previous competitions and are eagerly anticipating the chance to compete for the prestigious title. Angola, in particular, is determined to make a strong comeback after narrowly missing out on the championship to Turkey in a thrilling final held in Istanbul. Meanwhile, Tanzania, the reigning African titleholders since the last CAAF event in 2021, are resolute in defending their hard-earned title against fierce competition.

The primary objective of the inspection was to ensure that the facilities meet the required standards and are fully prepared to host the African Para Games. The CAAF inspection team conducted a comprehensive assessment of various aspects, including playing surfaces, seating arrangements, spectator facilities, and other vital amenities essential for a successful sporting event.

Furthermore, the inspection team took the opportunity to pay a courtesy visit to Mr. Mustafa Ussif, the Minister of Youth and Sports. This meeting served as a platform for the team to express their satisfaction with the progress made in the preparations for the first-ever African Para Games. Discussions were also held on Ghana’s Amputee Football program, emphasizing the significance of the sport and its growth within the country.

Mark your calendars for the Accra 2023 Para Games, scheduled to take place from September 3 to September 12, 2023. This highly anticipated event will exhibit the exceptional athletic abilities and unwavering determination of para-athletes from across the African continent. With the final inspection currently underway, Ghana is poised to deliver a remarkable tournament that will set a new standard for para-sports in Africa. Sports enthusiasts can look forward to witnessing a memorable showcase of talent, resilience, and camaraderie.
