IMC Links Part Of Enyimba’s N100m To Player Recruitment And Stadium Upgrade

Enyimba, the champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) 2022/23 season,
will receive a prize money of N100 million.

However, the NPFL Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, has specified that certain conditions are attached to the prize money. These conditions are aimed at strengthening the club and developing its infrastructure to compete effectively in the CAF Champions League.

Out of the N100 million prize money, Enyimba is required to spend a minimum of N25 million on recruiting quality players to enhance their squad. This investment in player recruitment is crucial for the club to perform well in the CAF Champions League, as teams from North African countries often have strong squads comprised of top players.

Additionally, another N25 million must be allocated by the club towards upgrading facilities in the stadium that do not meet the required standards. This investment in infrastructure is essential for Enyimba to meet the criteria set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for hosting the CAF Champions League.

The remaining N50 million is at the club’s discretion to spend as they see fit. The IMC does not dictate how this portion of the prize money should be used or who should execute the projects.

Enyimba has the freedom to allocate these funds according to their priorities.

Elegbeleye emphasized that the IMC is committed to encouraging clubs to improve their
facilities in the long term, with the aim of meeting CAF Champions League hosting
requirements.

He also mentioned that as more sponsors are attracted to the NPFL, there will be an
expansion of the financial rewards, ensuring that clubs receive benefits based on their
positions on the league table at the end of the season. This additional financial support will aid clubs in player recruitment and facility upgrades.

Enyimba secured their ninth league title by edging out Remo Stars and Rivers United on
goal difference after all three teams were tied on nine points at the completion of the NPFL Championship Play-off in Lagos.

As a club with a rich history and twice winners of the African Champions League, Enyimba
will now have the opportunity to reinforce their squad, improve their infrastructure, and
compete strongly in continental competitions.
