Umar Sadiq is eagerly anticipating his debut in the UEFA Champions League with Real
Sociedad, despite currently recovering from an injury.
The Nigerian striker joined Sociedad from UD Almeria last summer in a transfer deal reportedly valued at €20 million, and he immediately showcased his immense potential.
Although Sadiq only made five appearances in La Liga, he managed to find the back of the net three times, displaying his prowess as a goal-scoring threat. Unfortunately, his progress was halted by an acute ligament injury that sidelined him for the majority of the 2022/23 season.
Nonetheless, Real Sociedad finished in fourth place in the league, securing qualification for the prestigious Champions League.
Sadiq expressed his pride in the team’s achievement, taking to Instagram to share his thoughts. He wrote, “The season has finished and #wechampionsleaguelikethat. It gives me great pride to be part of this team. I’ve only been here for a few months, but it feels like I’ve been here for years. I want to thank my teammates for making my transition smooth, despite the challenges.”
Sadiq also extended his gratitude to the medical staff and coaches who supported him
during his rehabilitation, mentioning how they managed to bring a smile to his face during
moments of worry. He acknowledged the familial atmosphere at Real Sociedad, stating,
“That is what makes me understand that LA REAL is a family. You all are so special, and I
hope next year will be even more special. See you soon.”
As Sadiq continues his recovery, he eagerly awaits the opportunity to step onto the
Champions League stage with Real Sociedad, aiming to contribute to the team’s success
and make a memorable impact.
