The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has officially announced the commencement of
the National Division 1 and 2 Leagues on June 3.
The highly anticipated tournament will be held at the Owerri Stadium in Imo state, running from June 3 to 13, 2023.
Sixteen clubs will compete for the limited six slots available in the men’s and women’s
categories of the Nigeria Volleyball Premier/Division 1 Leagues. Chief Martin Melandi, the
Technical Representative of NVBF, disclosed that the amended rules and regulations agreed upon during the previous stakeholders’ meeting in 2022 will serve as the official and binding
document for all participating clubs in the 2023 season. As the Technical Director of NVBF, the Former International Referee has emphasized that the deadline for team registration for the National Division 1 and 2 Leagues is May 30, 2023 (Tuesday).
Any teams failing to register within the given timeframe will face potential sanctions determined by the League Management Committee.
Expressing their satisfaction, the League Management Committee has announced that this
year’s National Division 1 and 2 Leagues will be held in Owerri, Imo State. The decision to
select Imo State as the host was based on their fulfillment of the Federation’s requirements.
In the men’s category of the National Division 1 League, the competing teams include
Nigeria Correctional Service, Kwara United, UCEM of Enugu, Joda VC of Bauchi, Katsina
United, Caliphate Spikers of Sokoto, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers, and G-Rank of
Kachia. The women’s category, on the other hand, features Olalomi Royal VC, Bayonet
Spikers of Jaji, Yelwa Spikers of Bauchi, and All New Comers as the battling teams.
In the Division 2 League, four men’s teams will compete, namely Adamawa Spikers, Bayonet Spikers of Jaji, Sword VC of Benue, and All Newcomers.
