Warri/Efurrum Marathon Will Be Tough – Coach

A leading long distance running coach, Umoru Mohammed has predicted that this year’s edition of the annual Warri/Efurrum Peace Marathon will be very competitive and tough.

Sports247.ng reports that Mohammed is already anticipating an exciting race in the oil rich Delta State commercial city, though the race is still a whole three months away.

Mohammed said he is happy to note that Nigerian long distance runners are already gearing up to contest for the top prizes on offer in the 10km race, which is billed to hold on March 31.

He enthused that the race, which started in 2016, will again help to fully promote cooperation and peaceful coexistence in the Warri and Effurun communities, though it has metamorphosed into a national competition.

The respected coach disclosed that top Nigerian runners like Deborah Pam and Fautina Ogah have again indicated their readiness to grace this year’s edition of the race.

Mohammed said: “From what I have gathered; this year’s race will be tough. We have athletes who are training real hard with the hope of winning the top prize.

“It isn’t a small competition anymore, it is recognised by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and so any performance that is done here is of international importance and so every athlete is taking it seriously.”
