Goals from the diminutive winger, Fatai Ibrahim and graciously gifted striker, Alade Balogun was enough to see off Gateway, who got a consolation goal deep into the second half, and all efforts to get the needed equalizer proved abortive, as City stood strong for the remainder of the game.
Coach of smart city, Abiodun Obafemi, said with delight after the encounter, βIt was a crucial encounter and a good result that we anticipated even as we envisaged a tough game”.
“Our opponents were stubborn, but, we wanted the results more and we fought for it and I thank God we got it,” he said.
“I am very pleased with the result because it will further boost our chances of getting more palatable results and also help our chances of qualifying for the super eight,β he concluded.
Meanwhile, the scorer of the first goal, Fatai Ibrahim, said, βI am happy I scored one of the goals, but I am more elated we got the three points at stake, which is very important. I thank my teammates for their support always and to God be the glory for the massive victory.β he said.
Smart City will travel to Ogbomosho, to face crown fc, in a week seven encounter in the NNL.
