Nigeria’s under 18 girls handball team extended their win in the IHF Women Trophy Africa Zone 3 ongoing in Ghana with a vital victory over Ivory Coast.
Coach Shittu Agboola Adewunmi had promised that the team will correct some of the deficiencies they had especially in the defense, in their victory against Ghana on Thursday and the girls, heeding to their coach’s instructions, did exactly that by outscoring the Ivorians and defending better as they took the first half 21-7.
The Ivorians came out smoking in the second half but the resolute defense of Nigerians as well the heroic goalkeeping of Rima Queen’s Precious Samuel kept them at bay and the Coach Shittu Agboola Adewunmi’s tutored girls ended up winning the match with a comfortable 38-22 victory to the delight of the fans at the Tennis Arena of the Accra Sports Stadium.
Precious Samuel was named Most Valuable Player of the match for her performance.
Nigeria will next play Benin Republic on Saturday at 2pm
