It was a day to forget for Sammy Ameobi and his Bolton Wanderers teammates as they were thrashed 6-0 by Hull City in the English Championship at New Year.
The forward was hoping to add to his three-goal tally for the Wanderers but his team got a ruthless shock at the KCOM Stadium on Tuesday.
Ameobi was replaced by 28-year-old Polish forward Pawe Olkowski in the 82nd minute.
Kamil Grosicki ensured it was 1-0 at the break and Hull blew their visitors away in the second half, scoring five more without reply.
Evandro made it 2-0, before Grosicki got his second of the day – the two goals separated by just 81 seconds.
Chris Martin, Jarrod Bowen and Nouha Dicko rubbed salt in Bolton’s wounds, giving Hull a fifth successive win as they started 2019 with a bang.
In total, Ameobi, 26, has appeared for Bolton Wanderers on 14 occasions with 1082 minutes under his best this season in the English Championship.
