Renowned sports editor, Alhaji Mumini Alao has raised nostalgia afresh for former Super Eagles’ captain and coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, as the group managing director of Complete Sports says Liverpool star, Virgil van Dijk reminds him of the late Nigerian legend.
Sports247.ng reports that, in recognition of the giant stride’s van Dijk is taking to help Liverpool get a first ever conquest of the English Premier League, Alao says the Dutch star shows the same qualities Keshi had.
Alao, fondly called Soccer Talk, was one of the pioneer exclusive football writers from Nigeria and made waves by visiting many of the country’s early professionals, including Keshi, in the early 90s.
He has now shot his mind back in time to reflect on the qualities that were shown by ‘The Boss’ back then, which he says van Dijk is replicating in his effort to help The Reds rule England for the first time since 1990.
Incidentally, Alao, who was an astonishingly great player in his younger days and always showed flashes of his awesome talent during matches of the sports writers soccer competition, SWAN Cup, is a fan of Liverpool.
In what could be a dress rehearsal of the celebrations he will unleash on the pages and internet should Liverpool win the EPL this season, Alao took to Twitter to state the comparisons he sees in Keshi and van Dijk.
Alao stated: “Virgil Van Dijk’s style reminds of late, ex -Eagles captain Stephen Keshi. Stature, composure, commanding presence, skill, vision, just like Big Boss Keshi.”
