Sen. Sadiq Umar, senator representing Kwara North introduced glamour in the state’s Football Association, FA, Cup competition and donated N2 million at the end of the recently concluded championship where four teams, women’s and men’s soccer teams emerged as representatives of the state at the Federation Cup.
The teams are Kwara Ladies Football Club, which won the Female Federation Cup and the other finalist, Moje Queens FC, as well as Kwara United Football Club, the winner of the Male Federation Cup competition, and the other finalist, Abubakar Bukola Saraki Ilorin Football Club.
Speaking during the presentation of cheques from the N2million donated to the Football Association by the Senator representing Kwara North, Senator Sadiq Umar to the four teams by the Kwara FA, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji charged the teams to reciprocate by making the state proud at the National finals.
While he praised the donor, Senator Sadiq Umar for the support of football and by extension, sports development in the state, he commended the FA for carrying the teams and the stakeholder along in the distribution of the prize money.
Moje Queens FC got N100,000, Kwara Ladies United FC got N150,000, ABS FC got N200,000, while Kwara United Football Club also got N300,000 from the money.
The Chairman of the FA, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa said that the association will continue to pursue transparency in all its operations, as he praised the donor, Senator Sadiq Umar for the support.
While reacting on behalf of the teams, the Chairman of Kwara Ladies Football Club, Mallam M. J. Daudu, and the General Manager of Kwara United Football Club, Bashir Badawiy commended the FA for the support to the teams, charging them to represent the state well in the national competition.
They equally called on the government to support the teams to prepare adequately ahead of the commencement of the Federation Cup.
Among those present at the occasion are the Vice Chairman of the FA, Bashorun Kayode Bankole, Hajia Segilola Alaya, Alhaji Shina Bello, Alhaji Bolaji Umar, Mallam Jimoh Oke, Mallam Ademola Kiyesola and the players representing the four teams, among others.
