The 2023 Anambra FA is set to enter the crucial stage as 26 teams have been trimmed to 8 teams. After a jaw dropping round of 16 matches that featured a fierce derby game, huge winning margin, last gasp winner, last gasp equalizer, striker goalkeeper and penalty shootout for the ages. It is safe to say that the round had it all.
And then, they are 8. And matches for a place in the semifinals starts on Tuesday 14th of March 2023 as two matches will be on the cards. Defending Champions, Edel FC of Anambra, by 3pm at the stadium they won last year in Nanka will take on Galaxy FC of Onitsha in a game many are tipping to be the match of the round. That same tuesday, De-Wilson of Okpuno will take on Global FC of Onitsha in another must see encounter. The winner over these two matches will play each other in the Semifinals.
Then on Wednesday, 15th of March, 2023. EmmyKing FC of Nsugbe by 3pm at Rojenny stadium Oba will take on Ozalla FA of Onitsha while at the same time elsewhere at the Awka City stadium, Ochomma FC of Ogbaru will play loosing finalist from last year Peace FC. Winners from these two matches will play each other in the semifinals.
In a related development, the Secretariat has dropped a combined 11 of the team of the round of 16. 2 goals heroes from Ozalla FC (Ebuka and Clinton) made list as well as the scoring goalkeeper that made crucial saves in the shootout for Peace FC was included, Akabuike Chibuike scored two goals and was transformed to a goalkeeper in the same match, a gamble that paid off. Other outstanding players either made the starting 11 or the bench. The lists are in the graphics below.
