NPFL 2022/23 : NRA Warns Referees Not To Go Down To Avoid Losing Out

Members of the Nigeria Referees Association, NRA, who are involved in this year’s premier league matches have been advised to avoid going down through any means to enable them retain their placements on the NFF Referees Committee list of match officials.

President of the NRA, Otunba Tade Azeez disclosed this recently during a TV interview at a match venue.

According to him, the new measure being put in place won’t tolerate referees who act in a manner that brings the game to disrepute.

He added that from what the Interim Management Committee, IMC, of the domestic league and Nigeria Football Federation NFF have in stock for the officials, no referee is expected to be involved in acts not in conformity with the laws of the game on the field of play.

The referee to watch out in one of today’s fixtures is Abdulganiyu Rashidat, a woman referee of the FCT Council. The renowned basketball player of the Nigeria Customs team and graduate of Bayero University, Kano is expected to prove her mettle why she was chosen among the newly promoted women to be at the centre, in the Gombe vs Abia Warriors encounter. Under the supervision of Joshua Baba Gottom, Secretary of the Plateau State Council as Assessor, Rashidat will have two able linesmen; Lagos based Abubakar Jimoh and Taykum Julius of Nassarawa as Assistant Referees 1 and 2 respectively.

Three other women referees who joined the elite league; Chukwu Blessing of Abia Council, Faith Agbons of Edo and Lagos Ekun Folashade, a former football player are on parade as Assistant Referees in different venues. Ironically, Folashade has her compatriot from Lagos, FIFA Yemisi Akintoye as the referee when Tornadoes tackle Bayelsa.
