Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, is ecstatic following the Solid Miners’ 2-0 win over zonal neighbours, Kwara United, in the Nigeria Premier Football League match-day seven clash at the New Jos Stadium, Plateau State, on Saturday.
During an interview with journalists shortly after the game, Yargwa commended the team for showing stellar performance over their opponents, calling on them to sustain the tempo in their remaining games of the Season.
“Today is a great day for us. We are happy.
“I, together with other delegations from the State were on ground to cheer our team to victory, and we are glad our visit wasn’t in vain.
“From my observation, the team have broken the yoke of ill-luck which had bedevilled them from the start of the campaign, and it’s our earnest expectation that they will continue on this winning path.
“We have two matches before the end of the first stanza of the league, nothing is impossible in those games either and subsequent ones.”
The Commissioner said the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule would continue to lend needed support to Nasarawa United to succeed in the elite domestic league.
“Recall that prior to today’s kick-off, I made a financial pledge at the team’s changing room, on behalf of my Ministry, that whoever scored would be given fifty thousand naira, and twenty thousand naira to whoever assisted any goal.
“I am redeeming that pledge to those players.
“Also, I promised to double their team’s match-winning bonus. That, too, would be redeemed accordingly.
“This gesture is to help boost the morale of the team and get them back to their rightful winning position.
“Nasarawa United are a big Club in the League, and everybody knows about this. Though we began the league season poorly, we won’t end that way, God willing.”
On the renovation work at the Lafia City Stadium, the original home ground of the Solid Miners, Yargwa reiterated that the team would commence the second phase of the abridged league on the facility, unfailingly.
“You are all aware that the Contractor is already back to site and all the items needed are already made available to put the playing turf of our stadium in use.
“I can guarantee you that both our male and female teams will soon return to their original base for their remaining games of the Season.”
King Osanga and Chinedu Ohanachom each scored in the Solid Miners’ 2-0 victory over their opponents, Kwara United, a result that sees them earning four points from seven games.
