Gombe United earned a hard fought goalless draw against in-form new comers Bendel Insurance FC in the match day six fixtures at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City,Edo state.
The Savannah Scorpions enjoyed the better possession in the first half and they came closer in the 13′, when they launched an attack from the right flank as Taye Yusuf beat two of his markers after he was layoff by Samuel Ogunjimi but his effort was saved by goalkeeper Obasogie.
The Savannah Scorpions failed to convert pockets of glaring goal chances as they headed to the locker room for the first half.
The second half was lively as the hosts pushed harder while the visitors neutralized their attacks; and for the first time this season they failed to win at home.
Gombe United became the first side to stop Insurance from scoring and winning at their turf.
The Savannah Scorpions gaffer Aliyu Zubairu in a post match interview, said the draw is a morale booster , because Insurance are currently the best side in the group, and commended his boys for their resilience.
According to him, they’ve now turn attention to their next fixture which is against a very strong and tactical side, expressing confidence of getting maximum three points.
“We know Enyimba are a very good side, but we’ll prepare for them, so far, i think there are no oppositions stronger than Insurance “.
For their match day seven fixture,the Savannah Scorpions will take on Enyimba Internal FC of Aba next Sunday at the Pantami stadium.
