Legendary sports journalist, Amar Ignis, has scooped the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Radio Nigeria Headquarters’ Chapel’s Best Sports Presenter/Reporter of the Year, 2022, Award.
The multi-talented ace sports broadcaster was presented with the award at the NUJ Week which culminated into lectures and awards for deserving staff held at the National Press Centre, Radio House, Garki, Abuja, on Wednesday, 25th January, 2023.
Reacting shortly after receiving the award, Amar said he was overwhelmed by the recognition, noting that it would spur him to redouble his efforts to serve the society better.
“I am really elated. It came to me as a shock.
“I never knew I was even shortlisted.
“There were so many entries from voters.
“Seeing the loud ovation made me humble.
“This can only be God at work.
“This means people are truly following up on what I have been doing, and my stay at Radio Nigeria is being appreciated.
“This will definitely spur me to work harder and push higher.
“Whatever you are doing, do it diligently because you don’t know who is listening, watching or even observing you.
“I dedicate this award to God Almighty who has made it possible for me.
“I also thank all those who have counted me worthy to be the recipient of this important award. This has really lowered me and tells me this is just the beginning, and I can be better than this.”
Amar Ignis works with Radio Nigeria, Abuja, and recently anchored the closing ceremony of the 21st National Sports Festival held in Asaba, Delta State, with over fifteen thousand participants in attendance, including the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sunday Dare, four States’ Governors, among other dignitaries from across the world.
