Our attention has been drawn to the videos and pictures making rounds on social media about the state of the playing turf of the Umuahia Township Stadium, home ground of Abia Warriors.
And we wish to react to the purported videos and pictures as follows.
1. Prior to the league commencement, a whole lot of work was put in place at the Umuahia township stadium to meet up with the required standard needed to host a league match as outlined by the Interim league Organisers.
Massive renovations were carried out on the dressing rooms, the conveniences, Scoreboard, the stands, stadium surroundings and most especially, the natural grass playing turf.
The disheartening images and videos being circulated in the media is only making a caricature of the efforts put in by the club. Many of the said photos are images from the outside of the playing pitch and deliberately meant to score cheap points.
2. The league representatives who were on ground and carried out inspection before kick-off of the game against Bayelsa United can ascertain the true condition of the stadium, particularly the playing turf.
3. The team’s current form must have been a surprise to many people and a cause of envy to unscrupulous individuals who try to pull down the morale of the team by portraying our home ground in a bad light .
4. Exciting and free flowing football was witnessed in the game against Bayelsa United which was played on an equally exciting green pitch as of the time of press release.
5. We implore the IMC to send a high powered team to verify the true situation of the playing turf.
6. We hereby attach some pictures taken against Bayelsa United at the same stadium.
