There was no moment of goal celebration for host, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan and visiting Kwara United of Ilorin, as the NPFL match day two encounter ended in a nil all draw.
It was a game the Oluyole Warriors’ did all they could to give their teeming fans, who thronged the Lekan Salami Stadium in their large numbers the maximum points, but their efforts were thwarted by the Afonja Warriors, who defended their territory stoutly.
The coach Gbenga Ogunbote tutored 3SC swung into action right from the blast of the referee’s whistle as they pressed for an early opener which refused to come.
As the game continued, the visitors fought their way into the game, forcing the Ibadan soccer lords, who while desperately searching for the elusive goal, to defend their territory against the Ilorin base side’s occasional attack.
With the first half ending goalless, the second half was more fierce as both teams made more efforts to find the back of the net.
While Cletus Emotan’s well struck shot hit the woodwork, with Samuel Stone’s shot of the rebound missing the target, the visitors also came close to scoring but could not break the deadlock either.
The result leaves Shooting Stars fifth on the log with two points from as many matches having drawn their first game, 3-3 away to Plateau United last Sunday.
The Oluyole Warriors’ next game is a tricky fixture away to Remo Stars, coming up on Wednesday at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.
