Governor Ademola Adeleke, Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, Yeyeluwa Dupe Adeleke-Sanni are among dignitaries expected to grace the Final Match of the third edition of the Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial Football Cup.
The Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial Cup Football Competition was initiated by Honourable Bamidele Salam in the year 2020, to immortalize the selfless, philanthropic services of the first civilian Governor of Osun State, who was a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and an astute Politician when he was alive.
The 2022/2023 edition of the tournament will get to it’s climax on Sunday, the 15th of January, which is also the birthday of the late Philanthropist and Politician per excellence, Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke. Egbedore United FC will face Osun Football Academy at the Osogbo City Stadium, starting from 2pm, while Ila United and Ilesa East will play the third place game at 11am.
Also expected to grace the event are the Orangun of Oke Ila, Oba Adedokun Omoniyi Abolarin, Alawo of Awo, Oba Abdulrasaq Ajiboye, Oludo of Ido-Osun, Oba Aderemi Adedapo, Alara of Ara, Oba Dr. Olubayo Adesola Windapo and the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Olubiyi Toriola and many others.
Meanwhile, the initiator of the yearly Football Championship and Member Representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Rep Bamidele Salam, has promised football fans across the state, the best grassroots football finals, even as he commended everyone involved in honouring the great political leader and philanthropists, Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, through the yearly tournament.
“It is a great privilege to be involved in this special event, mainly to honour a great man, who gave his all to the people of Osun during his lifetime. A man who believes so much in uplifting and making people better.
“Through this tournament, we have been able to groom great talents, and also been able to engage the youths meaningfully and redirect their focus for the good of the State and the country at large.
“This is the third edition of this tournament and it gets bigger every year. Thirty-two teams participated and now, we have just two teams, vying for the top spots.
“We thank everyone involved in the success of this tournament and also hail all participants too, for abiding by the rules and competing with the spirit of Sportsmanship.”
The third edition of the Competition was expanded to involve selected Football Clubs from the 30 Local Governments in Osun State and the Ife East Area Office.
