Rivers United forward, Nyima Nwagua says his target for the club is double figures for goals and to retain the Nigeria Professional Football League title.
The Ogoni – born striker scored five goals for the Pride of Rivers last season, which saw them lift the coveted trophy and has been a mainstay in their run to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup – scoring a sublime equalizer in their playoff round’s 1-1 away draw with El Nasr of Libya after an initial 5-0 home win.
“I’m very excited that the season is finally starting. We have been training for months now with series of friendly matches to keep us in shape.
“This season will be different as I want to improve on my goal scoring with double digits and to also retain the title with Rivers United”.
The former Kano Pillars forward thanked the Rivers State government and fans for their unflinching support, adding that this will spur the team in their quest for success in the league and on the continent.
“This period has been amazing with the wonderful support from his Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike. The fans have always been there and this will help us in our road to success.
“We will try our best to make them happy”.
Rivers United will begin their title defense against Lobi Stars at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Rivers State on Sunday,15th January, 2023.
