Nigeria National League(NNL)2021/2022 champions Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin, Wednesday afternoon arrived in Port Harcourt for a preseason friendly match with the current champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League Rivers United FC.
The newly promoted Benin Arsenals are testing the might of the Nigeria’s premier league champions as part of their final preparations for the 2023 NPFL season scheduled to begin on Wednesday,December 28,2022.
The grade A preseason friendly with Rivers Utd is scheduled to Kickoff at 9.00AM Thursday at Omogwa stadium in Port harcourt.
Insurance have engaged some quality teams including Kwara Utd,Shooting Stars,Enyimba and Rangers International FC since the beginning of their preseason build up programme which started over two months ago. They finished in third position at the recently concluded NPFL-Dozzy Mmuobusa Foundation preseason Super Cup which Shooting Stars won ahead of Enyimba and Rangers in Lagos.
Insurance gained promotion from NNL and returned to the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) after finishing as best team in NNL group B1 with 49 points and emerged League champions at the recently concluded NNL super Four in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state after beating Bayelsa Utd 1-0; pulling 1-1 draw with El-kanemi Warriors and 2-1 win over Doma FC in the league ending Super 4 tournament.
Coach Monday Odigie undoubtedly dissatisfied with his Insurance performance at the NPFL-Dozzy Super Cup Is using the Rivers Utd engagement as acid test for their new signees and as their final rehearsal for the 2022/2023 NPFL season which is expected to kick off next week.
