The minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, former House of Representatives member and Delta North PDP senatorial candidate in next year’s elections, Prince Ned Nwoko, President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau and former NFF President, Amaju Pinnick are some of the top dignitaries expected at the grand finale of the Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Cup on Wednesday.
The tournament which is in memory of former Super Falcons talented midfielder Ifeanyichukwu Chiejine commenced in Asaba, Delta state on the 15th of December last and will end tomorrow the 21st of December with a grand closing at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba with Imo Strikers slugging it out with Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens.
Seven teams participated in the inaugural edition of the competition which the semi-final games concluded today.
Delta Babes lost by 1-0 to Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens today with Peace Ikediuba breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute of the second semi final tie to cruise to the final.
Imo Strikers got the other berth in the final in their lively semi final tie with Erinle based Moje Queens FC. It was Moje Queens that drew the first blood in the 10th minute through Victoria Idehen before Miracle Ezeka’s equalizer for the Owerri based side in the 52nd minute.
Imo Strikers managed to win the ensuing penalties 9-8 to scale through to the final.
Other top celebrities expected to grace the grand finale are Nollywood actors Ngozi Ezeonu, Regina Daniels and Phil Daniel Aniedo.
The winner of the maiden edition of the Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Tournament will go home with 500,000 naira while second and third place will get 300,000 and 200,000 naira respectively.
