Wilson International Wins Abisco Cup

The first edition of the Abisco Football Championship was concluded last week Friday at Abesan Youth Centre, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, and with Wilson International Footbal Club going home with the giant gold trophy and the top prize money, as the champions. 

In the keenly contested final match of the competition between Abisco Boyz and Wilson Int FC, the later triumphed 3-1 on penalties after both sides ended the regulation period 1-1. Earlier in the day, African Church Youth FC had defeated Fortune FA, 2-1 in the third place game. 

Speaking during the well-attended finals witnessed by an impressive crowd at the mini stadium, guests from different walks of life, that included Ex-Nigeria Internationals, Taiwo Oloyede and Wasiu Ipaye, Hon. Olabisi Adebajo,the Executive Chairman of Mosan-Okunola LCDA and sponsor of the competition, expressed her happiness on the successful conclusion of the competition. 

While also applauding the level of discipline and high standard of play displayed by teams during the competition, she was also effusive in praises for the LOC and the team of GreatDynamics Talents Limited, who organised and packaged the competition. Even as she promised to make next year’s edition bigger and better.

On her part, General Manager of GreatDynamics Limited, Deborah Okediadi, thanked all the teams, that took parts in the competition, and particularly praised the sponsor of the competition for her commitment to the success of the competition, as well as, her several empowerment programmes. 

32 teams participated in the competition and expectedly, it threw up several exciting discoveries, including 16 years old defender Olanrewanju Oladipupo, of giants killing Fortune FC, who was honoured as the Most Valuable Player of the competition. Other individual award winners are Abisco Boyz duo, Joseph Fawehinmi and Adam Adeleke, who won the best goalkeeper and top scorer awards respectively, while Ablaze FA, was adjudged the Most Disciplined Team of the two-weeks long competition.
