2022 Anambra FA Cup runner up, Peace FC are the champions of the maiden edition of the Anambra Chairman’s Cup 2022 as they got better of De Wilson FC 4-2 on penalties in a keenly contested encounter at the Awka City stadium. This is a tournament powered by the Chairman Anambra Football Association, Gen. Chikelue Iloenyosi.
The Awka based side were the second best team during the regulation time as De Wilson FC created more chances to score but letting themselves down at the moments of truth. The lack of prolificacy came back to hurt and haunt them as their most dependable player and captain Mbah Izuchukwu had his first spot kick saved by Akabuike Chibuike. Peace FC players were all clinical with their shootout kicks until Chibuzor Patrick of De Wilson FC blazed his effort well over the bar to hand Peace FC the giant trophy of the maiden edition of the Chairman’s Cup amid wild jubilation from victorious players.
The Capacity Chairman of Anambra State Football Association Gen. Chikelue Iloenyosi praised the characters of all the teams that participated in the Chairman’s Cup as he congratulated Peace FC for emerging victorious after an engaging encounter.
“I am happy to see these smiles on your faces. That is the essence of these types of grassroots tournaments. I appreciate the good spirits of all the teams that participated and special congratulations to the winners Peace FC. Shout out as well to De Wilson FC, they gave it all they could but when it comes to penalty, it is more of luck. This tournament has come to stay as we will get better from next year. We have picked names of outstanding players from the 8 teams that participated and we will be holding a scouting program for them soon. That’s the essence of this tournament. I want to also appreciate Opia my man, Paul Obiakor, Mr Uzoo Epundu, Mr Ofili, Jimbaz, Acting Secretary Raph and every other person for their efforts in making this tournament a hitch free one. God bless us all.
The Chairman’s Cup was sponsored by Gran Hermano Academy Awka, AIG Garba Baba Umar (V.P Interpol Worldwide), Cosco Investment Nigerian Ltd and De Wilson. The other teams that participated include Rangels FA, DOSAD FA, GP World FA, Anambra Roovers, Obosi United and Uncle Raph FC.
