Nigeria’s veteran table tennis player, Segun Toriola has turned his focus on making the national team to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
After proving all doubters wrong by beating several younger players en route to a gold medal in the men’s singles event at the 19th National Sports Festival in Abuja, Toriola believes he still has what it takes to shine at the Olympics.
Consequently, Toriola has told sports247.ng that his focus now is on how he will qualify for Tokyo 2020as a member of Team Nigeria.
Toriola admitted that many people expect him to quit playing for the national team, but stressed that he will only call it time on his career when he can no longer keep playing well and win the way he desires to.
He acknowledged: “Many people keep asking me when I will call it quit with the national team, and I only tell them ‘soon.’
“But, that soon, I pray, will not be until I play at the 2020 Olympic Games. I want to quit only after I participate in the Olympics for the eighth time for Nigeria.”
