Both Uche Oparaoji and Marylove Edwards successfully defended their the Lagos Tennis cup titles on Sunday as the seven-day tournament came to an end.
It was a tough game between Oparaoji and Peter Lawal in the men’s final – despite being the favourite, Oparaoji was stunned by Lawalin the first set as the former won 4-6.
After four hours and 20 minutes, Oparaoji staged a remarkable comeback to win the game with 5-7 and 7-6(7) and clinched the 2022 Lagos Tennis cup men’s title.
Meanwhile, National number one Marylove had an easy run over Oiza Yakubu, who was her opponent in the group stage within two hours of play.
Mary love defeated Yakubu 6-1 and 6-1 to successfully retain the women’s title she won in 2021.
Oparaoji and Marylove were rewarded will receive the sum of #500,000 each, the first runner-ups will earn #250,000.
The semi-finalists will receive #125,000 each and those that make it past the group stage, will be given #50,000 each.
