Former Super Eagles Coach, Austin Eguaveon has wasted no time in wishing Mikel Obi well following the ex-Super Eagles captain’s announcement of retirement today calling it an honor to have coached him.
The former Chelsea man called his trophy-laden 20yrs professional career quit sharing a lengthy emotional post on his verified Instagram handle while revealing the next path of his life.
To recall, Eguaveon took the midfielder to the FIFA U-17 Cup tournament in 2003 and also for the AFCON Games in 2006, and 2008.
Eguaveon excitedly shared, “Congratulations on your retirement, John Mikel Obi.”
“An honor coaching you at the FIFA U17 World Cup 2003, AFCON 2006 & AFCON 2008, enjoy the good life.”
Mikel played his last international game for Nigeria in 2019, retiring from the National team after the AFCON tournament in which Super Eagles came third.
