Ahonsi and Sophia Foundation on Wednesday gave scholarship to 15 players who are currently playing for Island Stars Football Academy as part of its contribution to the growth and success of the academy.
The beneficiaries are Esther Isaac,Aminat Dacosta,Faosiyat Dacosta,Olanrewaju Samuel,Muiz Ibrahim,Alade Yusuf,Sally Basit Olawale, Mubarak Yekini,Simioluwa Freeman.
Others are Abolaji Idris,Nurudeen Ismail, Esther Isaac Soliu Lawal,Samad Lawal.
Founder of the foundation, Ahonsi Unuigbe explained that the scholarship was given as part of his contribution to the academy and promised total support to ensure that the academy is rank among the best academies not only in Lagos but Nigeria at large in the nearest future.
“I feel like helping the club in my own little way.The academy has been doing well in Obalende, Ikoyi,Victoria Island and it’s environs. This is an academy that has many young footballers and all of them are still in school, and some of them have school fees challenges. Also some of them have not bought their text books for the new session. My wife and I decided to give scholarship to 15 players who cannot afford to meet their school expectations “he said.
Unuigbe urged the beneficiaries to see the kind gesture as an opportunity that come once in life.
He however admonished them to remain focus in their education, football career and shun wayward life style.
In his own comment, chairman of Island Stars, Victor Akimoyo expressed gratitude to Unuigbe for his financial assistance to the players and promised to make the academy best among other football academies in Lagos.
One of the beneficiaries, Esther Isaac also thanked the foundation for its contribution to her education. She said the sponsorship would spur her and other beneficiaries to give their best for the academy activities.
