Weightlifting national team rising star, Favour Agboro has disclosed that he was excited to win three gold medals at the recent National Sports Festival in Abuja, especially as it helped him put Niger State on the log.
Sports247.ng reports that Agboro is now thinking of returning to the national team next year and lay claim for a spot in the contingent to the All Africa Games, where he hopes to excel once again.
He took his mind back to his early days in the lifters’ sport, for which he got his first national team invitation in 2017, and says he is happy with the achievements he has gained within such a short time.
Agboro, whose gold medals at Abuja 2018 came in snatch, clean and jerk as well as total in men’s 61kg, admitted that he is originally from Delta State but is happy to make his mark with Niger.
He has now set his sight on doing well at the 12th All African Games from 23 August to 3 September 2019 in Rabat, Morocco, after becoming a champion in the senior category.
Agboro said: “I am happy to finally become a national champion. I was fortunate to attend the 2018 Commonwealth Games but could not win a medal for Nigeria.
“In 2017, I attended the Africa Youth Championships in Uganda where I won two silver and one bronze medal.
“Winning three gold medals for Niger State means a lot to me. I want to remain a champion and ready for 2019 All Africa Games.”
