Unlike their counterparts abroad, it has come to the notice of the public that the majority of Nigerian players and coaches plying their trade in Nigeria’s domestic leagues do not have contracts that bind them with any club.
Even if few have, things are not done to adherence to the written agreement. This has become a great advantage to the club owners in Nigeria as they use players for their selfish interests and also to the detriment of talents in this part of the world.
Coaches also have had their fair share of this unfair treatment. Calling for intervention is the Coach of Wikki Tourists of Bauchi, Kabiru Dogo.
Dogo has called on the Nigeria Football Federation to help players and coaches who do business in the domestic league as the majority of them do not have contracts and the Football governing body in Nigeria should help in resolving this irregularity as it is not good for the Nigerian Professional Football League. “When players get jobs, they just give them paper, they don’t look at it, they just sign.
“So They need to educate people, educate players and coaches so that everybody can know the rule and know what they are entitled to. Most of the Nigerian clubs just sign players and they don’t give contracts and when they get back, they just start doing another thing. NFF just has to look at this.”
In compliance with international standards coach Dogo further stressed that the football business in Nigeria should be brought to the standard of their foreign counterparts for the benefit of Nigerian football at large as there is nothing professional in the Nigerian Professional Football League.
