Flying Eagles Will Be Successful In 2019 – Obuh

Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles’ former coach, John Obuh is of a view that the current squad, handled by Paul Aigbogun, will succeed at next year’s African U-20 Cup of Nations.

Although the team could only finish second behind Senegal at the recent WAFU U-20 Cup in Lome, Togo, Obuh said in a chat with sports247.ng that he is backing Aigbogun to succeed with the squad.

Obuh, who handled Nigeria at the 2011 and 2013 editions of the FIFA U-20 World Cup as well as the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup on home soil, said Aigbogun is on the right track to success, but insists he needs support.

He hailed Aigbogun’s decision to stick with players who have experience playing in the domestic league, as well additions of new talents in the squad he took to the regional competition.

Obuh retorted: “Playing in the U20 AFCON is a very tough assignment for the team, because it is a challenging competition.

“I am happy the coach is using players playing in the league, because I believe they will be able to rise up to the challenge.

“The coach should only just seek little support from the officials and see if he can scout more players to cover whatever grey area is in the team.”
