Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi has won the Portuguese Supercup with FC Porto following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Tondela at the Estadio Municipal de Aveiro on Saturday night.
A first half goal from Evanilson either side of a Mehdi Taremi brace handed Porto their first silverware of the new season.
Taremi opened the scoring in the 30th with a simple finish after Evanilson flick off from a corner kick. Evanilson also got his name on the scoresheet three minutes later when he tapped home from a rebound off the post.
Porto continued to dominate in the second half, but they did not get their third goal until Taremi converted in the 82nd minute. The Iranian striker was named MVP of the match at full time.
Sanusi put in a shift for the duration of the game. The Nigerian international had 79 touches, completed 49 passes with an 86 percent completion rate, and recovered possession three times.
Sanusi has now won four trophies in his career all with Porto. He has won one Portuguese Primeira Liga, one Taca de Portugal, and two Portuguese Super Cup.
The 25-year-old joined Porto from Santa Clara in 2020. He has made a total of 81 appearances for the club. The Dragões will begin their Portuguese title defense with a fixture against Maritimo next Saturday.
