It is no news that the Super Falcons yet again fell to the Bayana Bayana of South Africa in a second consecutive clash between them. This time a 2-1 loss but a repeat of what happened in 2018 when the Falcons lost by a goal.
The result is known, the points are taken and the coach of the Super Falcons, Randy Waldrum has called for “calmness” from Nigerians but here are 5 take aways from the loss on Monday night.
Randy Waldrum failed again against South Africa despite having a full strength squad. The team lacked game style, play pattern and direction. The numbers of passes says it all as Nigeria had over a hundred passes lesser than their opponent’s. Randy must step up at this point.
The younger players must get their chance now. Randy Waldrum did point out that the team has “young player who will be integrated into the team in near future,” but real the future is now and it has come.
It’s a big question but you can’t help but wonder, can we see the best of Asisat Oshoala in a green and white jersey again?
Like the former Super Eagles technical adviser Gernot Rohr, Randy Waldrum has the trait of making late substitutions, introduction of fresh legs could have changed the game face but we could only managed a goal in 90 plus additional time.
Except South Africa loses one game, Super Falcons will face one of Tunisia, Zambia or Cameroon if they are able to get to the quarter finals of the 2022 WAFCON which could prove very costly this time around.

The second round of matches for Group C comes up on Thursday as the Super Falcons take on Botswana by 9pm.
