The just-concluded West African Football Union B U17 Championship saw the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria emerging Champions of the regional tournament and securing a place in the forth-coming U17 Nations Cup.
The Golden Eaglets replicated the achievement of their U20 counterparts who also won the WAFU B U20 tournament in Niamey, Niger Republic last month.
Fresh on arrival from Cape Coast in Ghana, where the tournament was hosted, Coach of Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets, Nduka Ugbade, has said that the team has to continually improve following their triumph in the home of a fellow West African country. Though the Golden Eaglets had a dominant performance all through the regional competition with the team producing the Man of the Match winner in every game, coach Ugbade still believes that there is a lot to still improve on prior to the Nation’s Cup and possibly the world cup.
“Burkina Faso is a team that launches the ball very well, we would have taken the game to make it easier to win but it was not easy to get a win. there was a point that all we were looking for was an equalizer. We had about five or six clear chances that we were not able to convert them, so we will work on this going forward in the cup of nations”
Nigeria’s U17 team is recognized as the most successful in international football as they have won the competition a record five times and became a runner-up on three occasions.
