Umar Sadiq and Almeria have been handed a tough La Liga opener. The newly-promoted Almeria will face defending champions Real Madrid on the opening day of the 2022/23 season. The game is scheduled for August 14.
Almeria won La Liga 2 last season thanks in large part to Sadiq, who was a standout performer. The striker scored 18 goals, including a second-half equalizer against Leganés on the final day of the season, which ensured Rojiblancos’ first-place finish in the Spanish second division.

Sadiq also has nine assists and was voted the club’s player of the year. The Nigerian international has been linked with a move elsewhere, with Sevilla, Valencia, and Benfica all reportedly keen.
Sadiq, however, affirmed in an interview with AS that he will continue at Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos for the foreseeable future as he aspires to play in Spain’s top division with Almeria.
“Playing in the First Division is a dream, and I want to do it with Almeria,” the former AS Roma forward said.
“Almeria is a place where I have found the affection and trust of the coach. I have very tempting offers, but I will stay 100% in Almeria.”
