As the competition hits the critical stages, defending champions Gateway United, face a very uphill task as they take on Remo Stars FC in the semi final of the Ogun State FA Cup.
Gateway United’s goalkeeper, Araromi David told Sports247 that winning the state FA Cup is an opportunity for his side to rub shoulders with the “big boys” of Nigerian football.
“We know they have a good team judging by their performances this season, they are no pushovers but this is another opportunity to showcase our talents and play with the big boys over there in the premiership once we qualify from the state,” David said.
Last season, Gateway United won the Ogun State FA Cup and went on to the National FA Cup, going as far as the quarterfinals, defeating teams like Akwa United and Wikki Tourist on the way before losing out to Bayelsa United on penalties but David affirms that it’s not a do or die situation.
“It’s not a do or die affair. We’ll play our normal game, show our dedication and commitment as we have done from the start and I’m certain it’s going to be a very interesting game as we play our heart with the fans out there to support us,” David concluded.
Both teams face off on Thursday 16th, June 2022 at the Gateway International stadium, Sagamu by 4:00pm.
