Mauritius 2022: Medals continue to rain for Team Nigeria at the African championships.

Team Nigeria continued their blistering performance at the on-going All Africa Senior Athletics Championship in Mauritius as more medals were added to the table on Day 4.

The team started the day in 3rd position on the medals table and at the end of it, they remained in the position with a gold medal addition.

Oyesade Olatoye would be the producer of the gold medal after having a clean slate in women’s Hammer. Olatoye threw a mark of 63.67m to clinch the title in what will be her debut in the championship.

On the track, Chidi Okezie’s 3rd appearance at the African Championships saw him compete in the men’s 200m heats, his debut in the event for Nigeria.
He finished 3rd in Heat 2 in 20.84s and raised his game to finish 2nd in a time of 22.01s to qualify automatically for the 200m finals while Nicholas Fakorede could not make it to the finals of the men’s 200m but made semis in 20.97s. However Ogho-Oghene Egwero was 6th in his heat in 22.08s, thereby not qualifying for the next round.

Just after bagging gold in the women’s 4x100m, the duo of Tima Godbless and Praise Idamadudu got back on track today to use the gold medal inspiration in the women’s 200m heats. Godbless ran 22.99s while Idamadudu ran 23.48s to seal their respective places in the semis.

Team Nigeria finished the day with 4 gold medals to remain joint 3rd with Algeria who also have the same number of gold and total medal as Nigeria.
