Gbagada FC pick up a very vital win in the third round of the WGB Lagos State Football Association Cup yesterday, defeating Divine Praise FC 2-1 and coach of the side saying the team wants to go all the way to win the trophy.
The semi finalist from last edition went a goal down early in the game and it took a tactical switch from coach Akinyelu Olajide to help his side come from a goal down to win the game.
“It was a game of two halves. We did not know so much about the team and they had a striker that really troubled our back line and eventually got the goal for them,” Akinyelu told Sports247.
Three second half changes from Coach Akinyelu saw Omolaja, Blessing and Ahmed Oyeniyi come in for Adiele, Kazeem and Ibeleme, which proved vital in just a few minutes as they game got leveled courtesy a goal from Balogun Wasiu.
“Having seen how they played in the first half, it was easy for us to make effective subs, so in less than five minutes we got the equalizer and ten minutes later, the winning goal,” he said.
“We’re participating because we want to get to the final and win the cup. Our best finish was the semi final last year but we want to go all the way to the final and win the cup. However, we’ll take it a game at a time as we look forward to our next game,” he concluded.
