It was another battle royale during the weekend as clubs trade tackles in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL. One game that drew attention was the Plateau United and Kano Pillars tie.
The month of May is a month of rejuvenation for Kano Pillars having gone through the majority of the season as strugglers but have managed to scoop 12 points out of 15 from match day 27 up to the fixture in Jos. And considering the fact, that same Plateau United had not worn against them in Jos for two seasons now. On the other hand, Plateau United had claimed all maximum points in all 15 games played in Jos this season.
In the weekend game between both sides, Buhari Ibrahim, just back from national assignments, was the first to terrorize the boys from Kano with a header that left the goalkeeper scrambling for the ball. Izuchukwu Chimezie later hit the woodworks as he benefited from a low drive from the right side of the field.
The opening goal arrived in the 40th minute and Akila Jesse gave the only goal of the encounter. Worthy of mention is the Plateau United’s goalkeeper, Suraj Ayeleso’s outstanding performance as he ensures the Peace Boys secure victory after masterminding fantastic saves to help keep the team’s perfect home records in place.
Plateau United is 7 points behind league leaders, and Rivers United with 60 points as the chase for the title gets hotter. Kano Pillars on the other hand are in 16th position, two places but one point away, from the relegation zone with just 38 points.
