It is no news that the Nigeria U17 Women’s team, The Flamingos have booked their place for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup billed to take place in India from 11th – 30th October 2022 after edging past Ethiopia in the two-legged final fixtures for the qualifying series.
The Flamingos were held to a goalless draw in the reverse fixture by their Ethiopian counterparts at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Saturday. However, the team pipped the Ethiopians to secure a ticket for the biennial football showpiece thanks to a 1-0 aggregate victory.
Nigeria joins two other debutants Morocco, who defeated Ghana on penalties on Saturday to seal the deal after both the teams won their respective home games to finish 2-2 on aggregate and Tanzania becomes the first East African country to reach the finals after thrashing Cameroon with a 5-1 aggregate victory as the Confederation of African Football(CAF) contingents in India
The three African representatives will be in the same pot and find out their opponents for the group stage of the competition in a draw which will take place in Zurich on the 24th of June 2022.
Other nations that have qualified for the tournament include Hosts India, China, Japan, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Spain, and France.
