Don’t Expect Much From Nigeria Against Ecuador” – Finidi George Tells Fans

Super Eagles first assistant coach Finidi George has spoken to the media ahead of Nigeria’s game against Ecuador. The Super Eagles will face La Tri on Friday morning, five days on from their 2-1 defeat against Mexico.

Finidi has preached caution ahead of the friendly match at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, insisting that the team is still in the rebuilding phase under Jose Peseiro. The former Nigerian international and retired winger told NFF TV:

“We’ve had a couple of sessions while in Dallas and I think we liked it. We are building and the building process has started and we’ll see how far we can push the players. It’s been good so far. Let’s see how the second game will go.

“It’s not easy, just a week with the players and he [Peseiro] is giving the players more information. By the time we get to the [Nations Cup] qualifications, I think the players will know what’s expected of them in the Super Eagles of Nigeria.”

Finidi reiterated that the team is in the midst of a rebuild and that a draw against the South Americans won’t be a bad result. He continued: “It’s still a building process and a draw won’t be a bad result. If we have the victory, we will take it. If we can have a draw and play a good game, we will all accept it and go back home and build on that.”

The match between Nigeria and Ecuador is scheduled for Friday at 01:30 (West African Time). Following that, Nigeria will turn their attention to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they will face Sierra Leone on June 9 in their Group A opener in Abuja, before flying off to Sao Tome and Principe to face the island nation four days later.
