Nigerian international and on-loan Feyenoord striker, Cyriel Dessers has beaten AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham to claim the Top Scorer Award at inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League.
Dessers and his Dutch side Feyenoord lost to José Mourinho’s AS Roma in the final thanks to Nicolò Zaniolo’s 32nd minute toe poked goal to hand the Italian side the trophy at the Air Albania Stadium in Tirana, Albania yesterday.
Although Dessers did not score in the final, the 27-year-old striker finished the competition in an impressive fashion, having scored 10 goals in 13 appearances for his team including a brace in in their 3-2 first leg semi final home win against Olympic Marseille to secure the tournament’s golden boot award ahead of runner-up, Tammy Abraham who finished the campaign with 9 goals in 14 appearances.
His inability to get a goal yesterday saw him fail to become the third Nigerian to score in the final of a European club cup finals after Alex Iwobi – Europa league with Arsenal and Joe Aribo – Europa league with Rangers.
