Chairman Ikeja Divisional Football Association, Taiwo Rafiu Alagbe has warned teams to shun vices that can ruin Ikeja Divisional Football Super League which kicked off some weeks ago across various centres.
Algbe said this while addressing the club owners, managers, coaches and referees at the stakeholders meeting held over the weekend to review the just concluded first round of the league.
Shortly after the meeting, Alagbe told journalists that he was not particularly impress with some clubs that violated the rules governing the league in the first round saying that any club found wanting in the second stanza of the league would face disciplinary action.
“I have warned all the participanting clubs in the stakeholders meeting to shun any form of social vices in the second round of the league.I have seen some clubs whose fans always threaten away teams teams and officials during the league and I think this is not the best for the league. The league is not a do or die affairs and we the organisers are fully ready to punish any club that violates the rules as from second round,” he said.
Alagbe popularly known as Alhaji Mokan however commended the organization, officiating and standard of play by the participating teams. He revealed that during the first round of the league more clubs won their away matches and commended the officials for the good job.
“I am happy that Ikeja league has lived up to expectations in terms of officiating, organization and standard of play by the teams. This is to tell you that the league is very competitive and the clubs are prepared for the league. Like I said before the only thing I need to caution the teams is to shun any form of violence during and after their matches,” he said.
Alagbe however reminded the refrees about the importance of the league and urged them to live up to expectations in the second round of the league,” he said.
He also warned referees to shun bribery or any form of inducement by the club owners or coaches saying that any refree engages in such act would not only be expelled from the league but such a referee’s career would be cut short.
