Umar Sadiq scored the last goal for UD Almeria as they defeated SD Amorebiata 3-0 in the Spanish Segunda Division on Saturday to move one step closer to La Liga promotion.
After a goalless first half, Almeria took the lead in the 54th minute when Amorebiata left-back Andoni Lopez headed a corner kick into his own net. Srdjan Babic extended the home team’s lead in the 75th minute.
Sadiq was presented with the chance to wrap things up in the 82nd when Almeria were awarded a penalty. His spot kick was saved by Amorebiata’s goalkeeper.
Moments later, the 25-year-old made up for his miss with a superb individual goal. Sadiq made a clever turn outside the box to get away from his marker before rounding the goalkeeper to score his 17th league goal. He has also provided 8 assists for his teammates this season.
The result lifts Almeria to the top of the table with 76 points, with three games to go. They have played one more game than Eibar who are in second position with 74 points. Should third-placed Real Valladolid lose their next match, Almeria will be promoted if they win theirs.
