It is on record that Edo Queens FC is the only Nigeria Women State-owned football club that travel by Air to play away league matches. Kudos to the State Government particularly our sports-loving Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Rt.Hon.Comrade Philip Shaibu, and other top management staff for their active involvement in the overall wellbeing of the team. Recall during the official unveiling of the club’s new Jerseys when the Deputy Governor said that Edo State is not only interested in the girls winning trophies, but that they are interested in building a better future for them that will make them independent, responsible and useful to their families and the society at large. In pursuit of this dream, three ex-players of Edo Queens are currently playing top-flight football abroad, while a few others are doing very well flying our national colours in different categories.
As Edo Queens prepare to tackle the Yaya Bello ladies from Lokoja on Wednesday, it’s going to be football made easy for the Obaseki Queens because reports from the player’s camp have shown that Edo Queens fabulous and merciless attacking squad led by dangling and majestic striker, Yemisi Samuel, who has banged into the net five goals this season is ever ready to do more.
A continuation of this scintillating form on Wednesday and the victories recorded this far in the season, resilient Edo Queens players are confident of maintaining their stunning goalscoring form for the 2021-22 season.
In the first leg played at the Confluence Stadium Lokoja, Kogi State in 2021, Edo Queens scored in the first half of the game, while the Lokoja girls levelled up towards the end of regulation time. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. In this week’s home crucial game, Edo Queens will not leave anything to chance as the girls are going all out for the three maximum points.
Again, the management team headed by the Permanent Secretary in the State Sports Commission, Mrs Sabina Chikere, has promised to do everything within its reach to ensure that the welfare of the team remains a top priority.
