Ogbe-Agidi Quarters in Ekuku-Agbor Agbor emerged Champions of the 2021 EARI Football Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Oroma Quarters.
The match was an epic encounter as both teams were evenly matched taking the game from end to end with no goals to round up the first Half.
After the Interval Ogbe-Agidi increased a gear up and in the 65th minute Kelvin fired home to put his Side ahead to the delight of the fans which included the Royal Father of the day the Uboh of Ekuku-Agbor Ezerihanonye Ezehamosi Solomon, the Chief Host Hon Ifeoma Agborma and Distinguished Guests, sons and daughters of Ekuku-Agbor from Abuja, Lagos, Benin, Asaba, Warri, Agbor and Diaspora.
Oroma charged back but their efforts met a resilient Ogbe-Agidi side who protected their lead to the end to clinch the championship by the Lone strike.
Earlier before kick off the Ekuku-Agbor Cultural Troupe thrilled the fans with Cultural dance exhibiting the Ika Culture.
Meanwhile Hon Ifeoma Agborma, Executive Assistant to Governor Okowa delivered her welcome address in which she highlighted the achievements of EARI in the year 2021 which reads in part “To a large extent , 2021 has been an eventful and remarkable year in the annals of EARI. We have successfully paid for 30 students enrollment fee for certificate classes, donated the writing materials ( Textbooks and Notebooks) and helped the students to procure the National Identication Number ( NIN). Challenging notwithstanding, we are gradually breaking the jinx holding us as the only community without a modern Civic center in our immediate neighborhood. ” She stated
“The significance of civil center for an aspiring community like ours, cannot be underestimated, it could provide essential services to our community. This will include everything public meeting spaces to free classes and memorials honouring important events of the community. We are looking forward to the actualisation of this great feat.Therefore , we solicit for a sizable land in a centralised location for the building of modern Civic center.” She Beckoned.
The Trophy Presentation and Cash Award to the top three team were awarded as Ogbe-egbudu/Ogbe-Isogban won the Bronze while Oroma settled for Silver as Ogbe-Agidi won Gold.
